Our Wines by Region - Rhone Valley
Rhone Valley The Côtes du Rhône appellation is very large, covering approximately 100,000 acres (40,000 hectares) and including some 10,000 separate growers. Most of the vineyards will be found in the southern part of the Rhône Valley. The wines made in this area are very diverse even though almost 95% of the production is red wine. They can be tannic and robust, fruity and light and all the permutations in between. The white wines and ros‚s tend towards the dry and fruity. The principal grapes grown in this region are Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault. The soil ranges from stony to a clay/limestone mix.

Rouge-Bleu Premiere Cuvée Lunatique 2014 (#15-35)
$42.00

The story and the name of this wine come from this tiny rocky block located inside a prehistoric river bed. This parcel is the last harvested and definitely the most qualitative even if located officially in a "Vin de Table" area.   Winemaking took place in small porous concrete tanks in order to respect “terroir” diversity and allow air exchange during the fermentation, eventually permitting life and expressions of aromas.  Lunatique comes from naturally farmed 77 year old Grenache vines.  The wine achieved great balance of acidity, tannins and alcohol.  This natural fine wine is complex and rich with hints of blackberry, anise and kirsch.

Grapes:  100% Grenache
